Nhan Van-Giai Pham Incident occurs. Intellectuals and artists who publish the works that embraces the individual freedom against the guidance by the Communist Party on periodicals such as Nhan Van (Humanities) and Giai Pham (Masterpieces), suffer being arrested, sent to the forced labor or re-education, and deprived of their position at work. Nhan Van is banned in December, which prevents the painter Bui Xuan Phai from exhibiting his works.
