The attempted military coup fails and Suharto gained the power (the 30 September Movement). An outbreak of anti-communist purge causes more than 500,000 deaths. LEKRA is banned and dissolved. Intellectual members of LEKRA are arrested, tortured, imprisoned, and killed.
