The Cemeti Modern Art Gallery is founded in Yogyakarta (Jogjakarta) by Nindityo Adipurnomo and Mella Jaarsma and provides the basis for a wide variety of art. It is later renamed to Cemiti Art House, and reorganized as the Cemeti Institute for Art and Society today.
